Annual Requests: Mountain Dew Throwback and Paczki in Duluth

Fat Tuesday is coming … and yesterday, at Mt. Royal, I found my annual fave, Mountain Dew Throwback.

So, where have you seen the made-with-sugar, not-corn-syrup delight called “Mountain Dew Throwback?” And what other sugar-soda delights are available in Duluth? Last year, I discovered the Mexican Coke at Cub via this thread. I’m open to other, maybe even local? sodas.

And: last year, I discovered that not all Super Ones are the same. The Paczki delights vary from location to location. Last year, the Lakeside Super One was awesomest — best in taste and appearance. But where will I find them this year?

Rep. Milroy tackled at the Capitol

Rep. Nick Milroy of Superior was tackled to the ground as he entered the Capitol building in Madison to retrieve some clothing from his office. Apparently he showed his ID to an officer, but the officer didn’t give him clearance to get in.

ISO Used Telemark Gear

Anyone out there with some decent telemark gear they’d like to sell me? I’m just getting into it, but am already anticipating infatuation with it. Ideally skis would be 170s or shorter, boots a ladies 8.5 or 9 (European 26?), though I do have a wider foot, too. Any leads would be much appreciated!

Big hootenanny tonight!

Folks, there be a hootenanny going on tonight at the Rex. If you wanna come shake a little ass to some old-time music and bluegrass, this will be the place to be! The Boys n’ the Barrel, hot off of a recent CD release and performance at First Avenue, will take the stage. Opening up will be local foot-stompers Matt Ray & Those Damn Horses!! Shake it!

Do you rock?

Who are good and talented musicians in the area who have the ability to rehearse 1-2 nights a week for a 5-piece rock band, perform 4-6 shows in June and July, and subject themselves to several recording sessions prior to performance? Respond to this post with instrument of choice, influences, and contact info for coffee…

Prospects for the Arrowhead: What do you want for your future?

Part of the Public Insight Network

An economic evolution is underway in Northeastern Minnesota. New mining projects, continued development along the North Shore, the growth of health care and increasing numbers of self-employed workers present a fresh generation of choices.

While the economy shows signs of life, the path to prosperity raises tough questions about jobs and quality of life. So what do you want for your future?

MPR News and the Northland’s NewsCenter are holding a community-wide forum on the economic outlook for Duluth and the Arrowhead. We want you for this important discussion. If so, please click here to RSVP.

Seed Math digital reissue

seedmath.bandcamp.com

Over a year in 2003-2004, I put out four limited-edition Seed Math albums, one every three months, each corresponding to a season. The music was mostly a hodgepodge of four-track fuckery, kinda like Ween or something. I’m rereleasing all four of these in digital format as a run-up to the release of the new Seed Math album (coming sometime before summer). These rereleases will all be free for the taking. The first of four is out now. Please, won’t you expose your taste buds to this Whitman’s Sampler of lo-fi Casio-rock jams? And, if you like any of it, tell a pal?

RIYL: Ween, NIN, Beatles, Melvins, Zappa, Beck, Flaming Lips, shit like that.

See you later.

Hands Across the Bridge Putting “People First”

Today (3/3/11) there is another vigil with activists holding hands from Duluth and Superior across the Bong Bridge (the pathway). The theme would be “people first.”

Wisconsin’s Governor Walker announced his budget and President Obama’s budget just came out, too, so Thursday would be a good day to react to both budgets. We’re keeping the focus on budget cuts and how they affect people across the region. No lectures or anything else. The idea is to have something for media and also to keep citizens engaged.

We’ll be meeting at 5 P.M. and starting to walk toward the center of the bridge to meet fellow activists from the Duluth side.

Bring family and friends and tell everyone you know.

§ Parking is available at Best Western Bay Walk Inn and the Shack at the foot of the Bong Bridge in Superior (not sure about parking on the Duluth side).
