Zoo La Palooza 2024
The Lake Superior Zoo hosts a summer evening for strolling the grounds or hopping aboard the train for a tour. Attendees can feed bears, otters and barnyard friends. And learn fun facts from animal keepers. There is a pop-up disc golf course, climbing wall, and bubble dance party for the kids (and kids-at-heart). Operation K-9 2024
The 10th annual Operation K-9 highlights the work of K-9s from five area law-enforcement agencies. K-9 teams from the Duluth, Hermantown and Superior police departments and the St. Louis County and Douglas County sheriff’s offices will join forces, demonstrating their abilities. The 15th-annual Northern Lights Foundation charity softball game between the Duluth Fire Department and the Duluth Police Department to raise money for local families with children facing life-threatening illnesses. The third annual Bloody Mary Bash on the decks at Skyline Social and Games is a fundraiser for Never Surrender Inc. to support the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Local bars, restaurants and breweries compete for three awards chosen by attendees: best-tasting bloody Mary, best-presented bloody Mary, and the best beer snit/chaser. This flavorful evening consists of hot-sauce sampling, games like Spicy Trivia and Hot Sauce Roulette, giveaways and a live “Hot Ones” session with Mayor Roger Reinert. The Gitchi-Gami Trail Association presents its 24th annual North Shore Bike Ride, a celebration of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail. It's time for the Dog Days of summer. This event will raise money for Animal Allies. There will be local vendors, live music, food and drink specials and activities for your pooch. Animal Allies will also have a free microchip clinic so bring your "best friend". All dogs and cats need to be on a leash or in a carrier. Limit 2 animals per family. Breeders will be charged. Grit & Gratitude is a bike ride to raise money to fight pediatric cancer and celebrate the resilience of Lily Buchholz, who had hepatoblastoma, a rare pediatric liver cancer.
