Farmers Take the Stove
A farm-to-table dinner prepared by farmers. This family-friendly event includes food, a silent auction, networking and more. All proceeds benefit the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association, a coalition of producers and consumers moving food and farming systems into a sustainable future.

Local maker pop-ups, a Makers Mercantile mobile store featuring 50 North Shore makers, free French Macarons provided by Two Harbors Baker and festive drinks from Vikre Distillery. A portion of profits from Yuletide Market will be donated to Project Joy. Proceeds to Project Joy go to the Backpack Program, providing food for local children in need on weekends when school is not in session.

A Goody Night hosts a reunion show feturing performers and artists from the past seven-plus years. The band Royalty will play, Delphin Nyonkuru and Carla Hamilton will create art live and Moira Villiard will host. Donations and proceeds from tickets will support Olivia Davis, a local youth who has undergone three emergency brain surgeries this year.

The St. Louis River Alliance hosts and end-of-the-year celebration in Suite 208 of the DeWitt-Seitz Building. This is a casual gathering to bring the SLRA community together, discuss the exciting projects happening at the SLRA and encourage attendees to become members in order to help restore, protect and enhance the St. Louis River. There will be light snacks, refreshments and door prizes.

Fairlawn Mansion hosts an overnight visit on the eve of Martin Pattison’s death. The night features a behind the scenes mansion tour, pizza, snacks and parlor games. Guests will stay overnight in one of the Pattison or servants rooms. A light breakfast will be served in the morning. Amenities include shared restrooms (no shower), a kitchen and private rooms. The Center for Sexual and Domestic Abuse rings in 2020 with a formal masquerade gala fundraiser. The fundraiser includes hors d'oeuvres, live music by Traction, games, a silent auction, a ball drop, a mask contest, a champagne toast and a signature cocktail. All proceeds support critical services for adults and children hurt by abuse. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door.

More than 20 area businesses provide samples of their signature foods and beverages at the seventh annual Food for Thought in FDLTCC's student commons and amphitheater. Find out more »Great Lakes Pond Hockey Classic 2020
In the 16th annual fundraiser for the Superior Amateur Hockey Association, teams of four adults compete in a round-robin-style hockey tournament on a 140-by-70-foot section of the bay on Barker's Island, with small snowbanks serving as boards. The tourney runs Jan. 25-27. Each team plays three to five games within their division, with each division having a championship game and semi-finals. All games are 30 minutes and consist of two 15-minute halves.

The Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association hosts a conference and their annual meeting. The conference starts with coffee, a business meeting and Board of Directors election for the local chapter of the SFA. The conference includes four workshops about sustainable farming and local foods and a keynote speaker during the from-scratch lunch of soup and bread. The cost is $15 for SFA members and $20 for nonmembers.

Everyone is welcome to social hour from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Lake Superior College. Grab a soda or cocktail from the bar and peruse the silent auction (all proceeds will support the Beargrease). Many mushers and handlers will be coming in from their vet checks, as well as the judges, vet teams, families and friends. Dinner begins at 5 p.m. Advance tickets required. Cost is $20 per person. On the shore of Lake Superior, behind Canal Park Lodge, people jump into frigid water to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota athletes. Walk-up registration will be taken at the pre-plunge event on Friday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., and during the check-in event on the day of the plunge, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., both at Grandma's Sports Garden.
