Merv Griffin “Christmas City” B-Side

Some people may not know that in addition to the Merv Griffin Duluth-themed classic “Christmas City,” which was written for the Christmas City of the North Parade, there is also a B-side to the 45 RPM single that was released back in 1962. It’s called “The Song of the Christmas City.”

Also a song written with Duluth in mind (and worked into the song lyrics), this one is more of a slow jam compared to Christmas City’s more upbeat jingle-bell jive. The song features addition vocals by one Maureen Reynolds who I couldn’t find any information on. Apparently she’s off the grid.

You can download good vinyl rips of both tunes to add to your own Christmas playlist right here. Enjoy!

Christmas City of the North Parade Stream

Hi folks. Especially the folks who are far away Duluthians, this could be good news for you.

I just got word in this nice little video from Kevin Jacobsen and LeAnn Wallace that the Christmas City of the North Parade will be streaming live at the Northland’s Newscenter website.

The twitter hashtag is #christmascityparade

Warm face on cold, national chain again

Every once in a while, I get special service at a shop that I would otherwise expect to be a cold, emotionless, national chain. I like to tip the hat here to those folks.

Winter weekly events

Hey, howdy! I’m working on putting together the weekly events for December through February for the PDD Calendar.

If you have or know of a weekly event that you’d like to publicize on the calendar for that period, please let me know and send me a picture related to that event. Mention in the description how long the event should run.

50 years of being “nice-icle”

Merv Griffin recorded this precious little ditty in 1962. Happy Christmas City of the North Parade everyone!

Give to the Max for the Lake Superior Zoo

The season for giving is upon us, and today, GiveMN’s Give to the Max day, our hearts are filled to the brim with love for our supporters. Needless to say, this year has taken a toll on not only the physical form of our zoo, but the staff as well. And yet, through the clouds, rain, and mud, an irrefutable ray of sunshine has beamed down upon us. Whether through a child’s lemonade stand, a random donation, or simply an encouraging comment given to our staff, these gestures have truly kept us going through some of the darkest times in our lives.

Un Taco Mas: “We are still here”

Hello Duluthians, I am Rosalinda, owner of Un Taco Mas — the taco trailer mentioned in a PDD post last month. We would like to say thank you to all who came out and tried our food. We would like to apologize for it taking longer to re-open than we expected. We ran into some financial problems and we are working hard to get it up and running again. We will have a bigger menu, so please keep your eyes open and look for us. Again we thank you for your support and look forward to serving you again!

Prøve Gallery Call for Art Under $100

Sawmill Unpainted Furniture — what’s the deal?

I tried to go there over the weekend and even though it should have been open, it was closed with a “For Lease” sign. Internet searches have been unhelpful. Does anybody know what’s going on? I need a dining room table!
