Duluth’s Oneota Football Squad – 1915
I’m not sure if these are junior high students from Oneota School or if they are high school kids and this is a community team for the Oneota neighborhood (part of West Duluth). Denfeld didn’t have an official football team until 1917.
I don’t know the names of any of the players, except the guy sitting cross-legged in the middle — he’s my great uncle, Sam Brassard. (Yep, Uncle Sam.)

Sadie Sigford of the Bike Cave Collective will be talking about bike culture, how it has traditionally excluded women but how women are now defining their space within it, why bikes are important and why they are just awesome!
Following this Sadie will go over common bike problems and demonstrate how to do maintenance on your own two-wheeled bicycle machine.

Cross City Trail — A photo tour of the proposed section from Clyde Park to the Lakewalk
In a Feb. 18 post the maps for the proposed Cross City Trail – which will connect the Munger Trail to the Lakewalk – were laid out, with photos showing the various route options for the westernmost section shown in the comments. A Feb. 28 post showed a photo tour of the middle section of the proposed trail.

The ski hill at Chester Bowl is scheduled to stay open through this weekend, but it looks like Mother Nature may not be patient and cooperative. Already this weekend, the creek started flooding the bottom of the hill. So if you’re interested in taking or watching a waterskiing run at the Bowl, today might be your day. The lift is open from 4:30 – 8:30 tonight (Monday 3/8). The next scheduled day the lift is open will be Thursday, but that’s a long way away. Lift tickets are $5 at the concession stand. While you’re there, pick up a nifty Chester Bowl Hoodie or long-sleeve T-shirt at the concession stand.

Colder gets older
Colder by the Lake‘s “Older by the Lake,” a comedy about aging, opens this Thursday night at Teatro Zuccone.

Renegade Free Improv Weekend
Renegade Theater Company is proud to announce a free improv weekend on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis, and you must be present to claim your ticket. Tickets will be available beginning at 9:30 p.m on both nights. Not only did Duluth help raise the lovely Olympian runner Kara Goucher for a short time at Duluth East, but ultramarathoner Scott Jurek calls it his hometown.

“Theives Like Us” – Duluth screenings

“Thieves Like Us” is a feature-length action comedy (Jackie Chan style) made for about $3,200. There are two screenings at the Duluth Playground — March 5 and 6 at 7:30 pm.
The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Jarrod Crooks, and actor/producer Daniel Quaile of St. Paul-based Film Under 5, a production company with the goal of showing “that if you get creative, write a good story, and work your butt off, you can make a feature film for under $5,000.”

“Toast the Arts – Taste the Wine” is a wine tasting, silent auction and live auction fund-raising event benefiting Choice Unlimited’s Arts Program. Choice Unlimited is a non-profit organization supporting individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of employment and community inclusion. Choice Unlimited’s Arts Program provides instruction in visual arts, dance, and acting classes.
