Where in Duluth?

Where in Duluth is this newly established landmark? It washed up on shore about 5+ years ago and hasn’t moved since.

Here are a few foolish guesses via Facebook:

It seems to me this must be on the Lake Superior shoreline northeast of Brighton Beach, but I’ve never seen it and couldn’t be more specific.

The small bay just south-ish of Stony Point.

Stony Point is also a guess on Facebook:

Edgeways and Steve Smith got it!!! If you take a walk along the shore of Stoney Point, you come across this little hidden gem! Good guesses everyone!!!

So, the big question now is …

    Stony Point or Stoney Point?

Stony is the correct spelling of the word, unless you go by the Urban Dictionary, which offers definitions of “stoney” as “someone or something that possesses a laid back, hippie-esque quality,” “a relaxed atmosphere, state or setting” or “the state of being somewhat stoned, but not a complete high.”

I see a lot of references on the Internet to Stony Point and Stoney Point, so … well … what’s the official spelling of the place? I’m putting my money on Stony.

The street sign says Stoney, Google maps says Stoney, and the county tax records say Stoney. My guess is whoever named the road just couldn’t spell very well.
