Monthly Grovel: A Decade of the PDD Calendar

(Enter the amount of your choice.)

It was 10 years ago today — Sept. 12, 2011 — when PDD officially launched its event calendar. Since then our team of PDD Calendar cruise directors have published an estimated 68,000 listings of Duluth-area happenings — from concerts and plays to blood drives and cribbage tournaments.

In recent years we’ve reached out once a month with a beggarly blog post to remind everyone that human beings and not machines are at work editing and publishing calendar events, and that’s what this anniversary edition of the Monthly Grovel is about. So if you appreciate the event calendar, drop a few bucks in the PayPal account.

Yes, PDD does receive income from advertising, but it’s never been enough to pay anything close to living wages. And of course the pandemic doubled that problem.

What makes PDD so worthy of your spare change? Well, in addition to the obvious thing — the content you read here every day — we have also never uglied our website with popup ads, animated ads, Google surveys or auto-playing videos, and we don’t intend to start. There are no paywalls on PDD. We don’t publish “paid content” drivel or lists of decorating tips and pumpkin spice cookie recipes. We don’t gather and sell your personal information. We believe the internet can be better than that.

So make a donation if you can to support out next decade of service. Thanks in advance for anything you can do.
