It’s not a perfect connection, editing these two old Detroit Publishing Company photos together, but it does create a passable panoramic view of the Warehouse (or “Wholesale”) District and western Downtown Duluth circa 1905.
The Library of Congress does not cite the photographer or offer a specific date on these images, but they seem to be shot from the same place on the same day. The image below, as has been noted on Perfect Duluth Day in the past, is available on shorpy.com in a version so clear, crisp and huge that it’s difficult to believe.
Below is a zoom in on the Depot, Spalding and Observation Hill from the Shorpy version of the image.
