Duluth Food Trucks and Carts 2013 Rundown

chow-haul-food-truck-duluth

How many mobile restaurants are there in Duluth? What do you think of them? Let’s crowdsource a list. Below are the only ones I know of. I’ll add more to the list when you, the people, make them known.

Chow Haul – Burgers, wontons, nachos, etc.

D’s Dogs – Hot dogs

The King of Creams – Ice cream

Mrs. Delicious – Ice cream

The Rambler – Paninis, pot roast, pulled pork, etc.

Un Taco Mas by Rosie – The trailer isn’t up to code yet, but food is being made in Superior and delivered.

Is that Oriental food truck that used to be on Central Entrance still around?

Wontons at Chow Haul are the greatest wontons I've had.

I'm really loving that there's an ice cream truck traveling the hillside every weekend.

Habaneros was in existence last year; it sounds like it is no longer, though. Also, I saw on D's Dogs Facebook page that it will be out and about after a new baby is born.

I'm not sure if it would qualify as a "food cart" per se, but there is the popcorn wagon down in Canal Park as well. Last I heard, Louie Hanson of Duluth Grill fame was starting his own bicycle cart business selling healthy food around town. I haven't seen him around yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

This past Saturday I thought I'd seek out either the Rambler or Chow Haul. I called both of them (I don't remember which was which) - one answered the phone and said they're not out today, which I found curious being it was a beautiful, sunny day in the midst of tourist season. The other one rang 4 times and then went to voicemail saying leave a message. Leave a message??

Why not have a simple voicemail greeting that comes on after 0 rings that says where they are today or that they're not out today. Is it just me that realizes this?

Anyway, then I drove to Central Entrance and no, the Asian food truck does not appear to be next to the Copasetic anymore. I ended up going to Five Guys.

The Rambler and Chow Haul are at the Bent Paddle Brewery Co. on Thursdays.

Beatstomper, they usually use social media and their website to notify people where they are.

These days it is more complicated to go into your voicemail and change the greeting every day than it is to simply tweet "We are at Bent Paddle brewing today from 12-4PM"

That said, I have only eaten at Chow Haul and everything I have had was great. They had a brat dipped in corn dog batter that had jalapenos and bacon in the batter. It was the best corn dog I have ever had so I ate three of them.

The wife had the Iron Bowl, which was damned tasty as well.

That sounds like a damn good corn dog.

I still think they're cutting out some phone-only customers, or at the very least people who are afraid of Twitter. I did use the browser and Facebook app on my phone to look up their phone numbers, and intended to find them that way, but there were no locations posted so I had to call.

I think I saw a wiener cart with the name Mrs. Delicious at US Bank the other day. Not sure if that qualifies.

Mrs. Delicious doesn't sell wieners; she's a peddler/pedaler of ice cream, selling treats from a her bicycle.

You don't have to have a Twitter account to see Chow Haul or the Rambler (or probably all businesses) Twitter page. Treat it just like a website that the user can update very easy. No need to fear it.

Paul beat me to the Mrs. Delicious mention. She's got I've cream for sale, and I understand it is pretty yummy ... and I think she is trying to offer gluten-free and lactose-free treats as well. Quite affordable, too.

And she's a super nice lady ... being a teacher helps out in that department.

Mrs. Delicious has chocolate Coconut Bliss non-dairy fudgsicles. So delicious.

Last night at Bent Paddle I had the Teriyaki Pulled Pork w/ Pineapple & Swiss Cheese from the Rambler, and it was delicious!
