Minnesota Republican Senator Dan Hall of Burnsville decided to become the next social-media idiot today with this Tweet. We’d typically ignore something like this on PDD, but … isn’t that Duluth’s Inner Pier Lighthouse in the photo?

While I hate to do this, I have to. This house is just up the street from my house. The vote no signs are in the yards next door to the house with the American flag.
His twitter profile says he believes in Faith, Family, and Freedom. Which means he believes in freedom only if you are just like him, otherwise you only get certain freedoms.
Yup… that’s a house on Park Point. I believe that the house with the sign and the other one with the flag are owned by the same person. So… maybe the flag and the sign were put up by the same person!
I can’t take credit for a keen eye on this. I had an informant, and I still doubted it at first … but yeah, I see now that it was clearly shot in Duluth.
Here’s a better version of the image. (Click it to triple the size.)
Oh, by the way, if you believe in Faith, Family, and Freedom you capitalize the words, because only liberal English teachers follow rules of orthography at the expense of patriotism. The lack of all caps, however, reveals that Senator Hall needs to dig deeper. As a penance I recommend six pledges of allegiance and three rounds of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
I walked past these houses the other day. As far as I could tell, the are three separate properties owned by separate people.
Fence guy with sign, flag guy, the guy with sign (the third property starts at the mulch). However, the person in the middle property could have completely different opinions, rather presumptuous to say that flag guy is going to vote “yes.”
Dan Hall appears to be an idiot. 1. His outlandish statement. 2. His ridiculous backtracking. 3. He types “U” instead of “you” in his tweets. 4. He doesn’t know the difference betweeen “their” and “they’re.”
As the vacationing owner of all three places I come to this discussion a bit late. I live in a house with a sign and my flag isn’t up because the new bracket location bothered nesting house sparrows and must be moved. My patriotism is not blind nationalism but an appreciation of what we have and what other’s efforts (like my dad’s WWII South Pacific service) have allowed us to enjoy. And we should let every one, every one, enjoy the same.
I have a vote NO sign in my yard. And an American flag just a few feet away. Unfortunately, too many people make broad generalizations when they don’t know what they’re talking about.
Agreed, BadCat!. There’s a house on Arrowhead near Carver that has a Cravaack sign with a Vote No sign, and it makes me happy because it means they’re actually thinking separate issues through.

Keen eye, Mr. Lundgren, keen eye.
The replacement of that manhole cover w/o the stripes lining up bugs me WAY more than any Senator’s social media comments.

I suppose he’s here so he can testify in a few days that Duluth doesn’t need flood relief.

Also, totally agreen on the manhole cover. I want to go out there right now and fix it!!!
I have both! I put the flag out only on Fourth of July or Flag Day or some other special occasion. Maybe tomorrow?
It’s pointless to fly an American flag when its meaning doesn’t apply to you.
Patriotism is the last refuge of a douchebag.
Whoa, a flag in Duluth’s new gay bar! Perverts must love America after all.
“It’s pointless to fly an American flag when its meaning doesn’t apply to you.”
I love you, Jody!
That’s why we fly the Jolly Roger at me house.

City Pages: “MNGOP Sen. Dan Hall suggests gay marriage supporters are unpatriotic“

What a turd.
Effin Anti-American Sparrows. You’d never see that shit from a Bald Eagle I tell ya.

I think it was the 50 mph gusts throwing the flag through their new construction, not their politics!
My DD214 backed by the First Amendment are my justification for not displaying colors.
Hall is obviously blindly out of touch with his patriotism
This guys sets public policy and he jumps to a conclusion after a sample size of one?
Dickishness knows no political affiliation.
Wait, it sort of does.
I get the sense that Mr. Hall might have a hard time sorting this one out.
[The full frame also includes American-flag-on-porch for topical good measure.]
I’m not a Cravaack supporter, but I think it’s awesome that someone who is also supports marriage equity!
