This week: theater, art openings, severe weather and a second line parade
By Lawrence Lee on Apr 16, 2012 in Events
Here’s a sampling of a few things listed on the Perfect Duluth Day Calendar this week.
Apparently this is the week to open a play. Here’s the skinny:
- A Chorus Line opens at the Duluth Playhouse
- Cinderella opens at UMD
- Panic opens at UWS
- Picasso at the Lapin Agile opens at the Play Ground
- Pride and Prejudice opens at CSS
- A Steady Rain continues at Teatro Zuccone.
Yup, lots of theater going on.
Our resident artist here on PDD, Brian Barber, has an exhibition opening at the Duluth Art Institute at the Depot.
Add to that a whole bunch of Earth Day related events going on around the city, including the Gallery Progressive art hop, the “Run, Smelt, Run!” Second Line Parade, and the Echoes of Peace 10th Anniversary Concert at Sacred Heart.
But wait, that’s not all. It’s also Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week. Are you aware? Become aware. That is all.
So what are you doing this week? Can we tag along? Any upcoming events that you want to promote? Let us know!

And don’t forget Dave Mordal at Dubh Linn Irish Pub on Saturday.
My favorite poster of the week:
There’s also the annual Earth Day Gallery Hop on Saturday from 10 am -- 5 pm.
FWIW, the “music provided by KUMD” part of the DAI show is actually DJ-E (me) doing a two-hour set of Homegrown (past and present) bands.
And the Gallery Progressive [PDF] Thursday evening, and 420 Blowout all day Friday.
I’ll be reppin the ‘Kef @ the Whole Foods Earth Day thing, too. C’mon by and grab a cup.
FWIW: 12-5 @ the WFC. I’ll be pouring the good stuff! I’m kicking around the idea of doing some single cup pours of Organic Sumatra and Nicaragua, too. These are two really nice newer lots we’re roasting, so there’ll be lots to enjoy.
Wildwoods is holding an art soiree at the Blue Lake Gallery in Canal Park on Earth Day, April 22, from 3-7pm. Blue Lake will donate 20% of sales during this event to the Wildwoods Facility Fundraiser. Blue Lake will also donate 20% of sales during the 2 weeks preceding (April 8-22) the event for customers who present one of our printable event flyers.
A similar postcard will also be available in businesses throughout Duluth (list of these businesses coming soon)
Bring your family to browse Blue Lake’s wonderful art, clothing, and jewelry, munch on snacks from Amazing Grace, and meet our celebrity wildlife guests — Archimedes the Eastern Screech Owl (with author Laura Erickson), Thistle the Porcupine (with Erin Manning from Wolf Ridge ELC), and a Harris Hawk (with local falconer Jackie Fallon).
We can’t wait to meet you!
