Free Park Day
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources offers free admission to all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas on four days each year. On Free Park Days the DNR waives the requirement for a vehicle permit to enter state parks and recreation areas. The entrance fee waiver does not cover activities like camping, rentals or tours. Check out the planes, take a flight, dance to the Blue Water Big Band, learn about flight history and checkout the gathering of classic cars at the Bong Airport Open House. In this five session summer camp series, young artists will create nature-inspired screen printed shirts, clay planters, one-of-a-kind nature jewelry and trading postcards. This class at Whole Foods Co-op - Denfeld teaches how to make ice cream using old-fashioned techniques. Ice and salt will be used to compare two batches of ice cream: one batch is hand churned and the other uses an electric mixer. Participants will be taught about the chemistry of the process and create two flavors: vanilla and mint chocolate chip.

The Whipper Snapper kids' races are held each year in Duluth’s Bayfront Festival Park on Grandma’s Marathon weekend. These races are free and open to children age 14 and under. Zeitgeist Arts presents two week-long improv and theater intensives for youths aged 13-19. The first runs June 24-28; the second is from July 8-12.
