Redneck Sighting in Canal Park

My wife got this in a mass forwarded email today. I’m still trying to figure out who took the picture, someone at SMDC was the first to forward it as far as I can tell. Anyone who knows anything else please post it here or contact me so I can credit the intrepid photographer. I’d really love to congratulate the intrepid ATV-or-bust-redneck who managed to strap the vehicle to his car car, (and yes, I know it was a he) but that might be asking too much. I think this image has got some real PDD banner potential.

Zooming in on Duluth with Google Maps Street View Expansion

As Perfect Duluth Day and others noted earlier this year, Google Maps Street View arrived in Duluth with a brief run-through. [See the original PDD piece.]

Now however, Google has taken Street View to a major portion of Duluth and surrounding areas, and I write about it with a number of example photos including the Kozy Bar at my personal Web site:

David Guttenfelder: AP photographer with Wisconsin ties

MarineInAfganiztan

AP Chief Asian Photographer David Guttenfelder has been covering Afghanistan since 2001. His photos are impressive to say the least.

He vacations every summer with his wife and two daughters at Three Lakes, near Eagle River, Wis. His wife is from Neenah.

Listen to Mike Simonson’s interview with Guttenfelder on KUWS.fm.

A walking tour of Target Field

Minnesota Public Radio producer Jim Bickal took a walking tour of the future home of the Minnesota Twins, which is still under construction. Click here to check out his report. It’s pretty cool.

Photo buffs read here!

I can see there are a lot of us out here that enjoy capturing the beauty of Duluth and the surrounding area. If you’re up for a fun challenge this Saturday, check out 12 Hours in Photography. A group of us from around the world have taken to occasionally having a “12 Hours in Photography” day from time to time. If you’d like to take part go to the site and follow the directions!
Cheers!

Silver Creek Cliff (less than an hour from Duluth)

Paul Lundgren kind of stole my thunder on this with his excellent photo-essay on the North Shore earlier this week, but I was out in the same neighborhood for a work project last week myself. Truly I was in a big hurry and swamped with about a dozen things, but I just couldn’t help but stop for half an hour and snap some photos on the way back. It was the same day as the big Vikings-Packers game and I thought if they turned out it might make a good PDD post/tip for armchair quarterbacks on a great (brief) weekend road trip, but … that didn’t happen and now we may be past peak colors up in those woods. Still its a great drive anytime of year. And it’s fun going through the tunnel, too.

Someone left this for me to find on the footbridge across Penn Creek. Kudos to the artist.

More Vintage Photos of Duluth

Duluth Incline Circa 1905

I’m not sure if we’ve ever discussed photos from this site on PDD before, but the vintage photography blog Shorpy just posted some new old shots of Duluth from 1905. There are a few more Duluth photos back in the archives as well, which I dug out for you. Check ’em out:

Halloween Banners

PumpkinSmall

It’s October 1st, and that means the best holiday in the world is only 30 days away. We’re looking for Halloween banners for PDD. There have been a few showing up in the rotation, but if you have more, send ’em in. We want to display Halloween-only banners on Halloween. Remember, here are the rules. Images must be 960 pixels wide by 167 pixels high. Don’t stretch the image to make it fit those dimensions, that always looks poopy. Believe it or not, we have standards here. The Perfect Duluth Day logo will be added by PDD’s art department. If you’d like to add the logo yourself, here’s a layered Photoshop template.
The lower portion of banner photos serve as background to the navigation bar, so crop your image with that in mind. Make sure essential elements are not in the area that will be obscured.
E-mail the masterpieces to banners @ perfectduluthday.com

Where in Duluth?

They could have at least added a couple coils of razor wire for ambiance.

Where in Duluth?

Autumn48957

Another installment of the exciting game in which, for nothing but bragging rights, PDD readers battle to be the first to identify the spot in Duluth where a select photo was shot.
