Baby Brain?

The perception that pregnant moms and moms who have recently given birth have difficulty remembering things has recently been debunked. However, as a woman with twin four-year-olds and a six week old infant, I have to wonder.

When I was pregnant, I attended Stacy Holden’s prenatal yoga classes at the Coppertop Church on Monday nights. Stacy does a great service to pregnant moms by offering this class. She will often say, ‘Try to remember this pose when you have given birth as it is good for stretching out muscles that tense up while you are nursing’. I for one, am not good at remembering such poses. So, I encouraged Stacy to publish a booklet/pamphlet or something for pregnant and new moms to continue the lessons we’ve learned in her class. She was one step ahead of me. Stacy would like to produce a CD with spoken word instructions on poses that would have an accompanying poster with photographs of the poses. She has worked with Chelsea E. Morgan and Magic Box photography and has a collection of photos she’d like to use.

So, why am I posting this? She’d like some help with recommendations for a process to produce the CD. Should she contact a recording studio to produce the CD? If so, anyone have any recommendations?

I’d really like to see her achieve this goal, so I’m working as a middleman in the process. Thanks for your feedback!

My company might be able to help her out. We focus mostly on video, but have the capabilities to do audio as well. Even a video of such poses on a DVD format may be a better way to get the "reminders" into pregnant and new mother's homes. Either way, I think we could help.

If she wants to do it but has virtually no budget (isn't that always how it is?) maybe I can help. I have really high-quality audio mastering equipment (broadcast quality microphone and a Macintosh editing system) and the software (Logic Pro 6) to easily accomplish what it sounds like she's intending to do.

I also have some video capabilities as well; I liked the idea above. The thing is, I don't really make my living with this stuff, it's just sort of a hobby. I'd suggest looking around a bit and seeing what the other companies will charge you, then give me an email and maybe we can get it done on a shoestring if that's what's required.

Does she have a sense that there's a demand for a CD? I'd so much prefer a video to show me how to do something.

When doing yoga, I find it difficult to constantly look at a tv screen. Maybe that's what Stacy's thinking. If you can listen and have a little visual aid to refer to, that's probably actually easier.

I love Stacy. Stacy is a goddess.

Do-it-yourself might be the way to go.

I would purchase a good computer headset (similar in style to these: http://tinyurl.com/3ywu74c) and use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.

Then her clips could be packaged into a CD (more work & money) or available for listening on her WCW website (less work & money). She could also offer the poster in print for a cost or provide an 8.5X11 handout on her website.

Say hi to Stacy.

I agree with most of what is said... the video idea would give the participant the opportunity to watch or listen, though... and as to the "big business," Complete Media is professional quality at amateur prices ... it's also a hobby business of mine, that I've been doing for almost 10 years. My background in television (seven years in the Duluth market) makes this project quite appealing, and easily produced.

Again, let me know if I can help... I'm sure my services will be cheaper than purchasing your own equipment, at least for this one project ... it all depends on the time she wants to spend!

I'd recommend considering a web-based publication. Cheaper and easier to produce, update and distribute/sell. Mark my words: this newfangled information superhighway is going to stick around.
