Young Goodman Brown – “Runnin’ Down a Dream”

Thought this might be a good day for a little fun since it sucks so bad outside. Here we have the last known video by the band Young Goodmann Brown … doing their version of Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down A Dream.” This is it, I have no more video featuring these boys. However, I do have an entire 1991 performance by a great little band called Zen Identity … taped in the spring of 1991 at the Cove Cabaret. Anyone interested in that?

By the way, if you are interested in the other Young Goodmann Brown videos, they are all on my YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/speedking

There are also various other band performances & interviews that I have shot throughout the past two decades.

    Enjoy.

Oh, you better bring the Zen Identity. Give us a while to let this one soak in, though.

When were they having live local bands at the Cove? Just the name conjures up their ads on KZIO: “Multi tiered lighted dance floor” “at the Cove Cab – a – Raa-aay.” And etc. Then when I was finally old enough to go instead of some diamond in the rough, Swinging Studio 54 of the North, it was more like just a rough studio in Superior’s north end.

Come on and fly! At the Cove Cabaret.

The Cove had live bands every so often. I taped Nazareth in there. What happened with Zen ID is that they were the opener for a band called HEAT…which was basically Quiet Riot, but for some legal reason they couldn’t use the name at that time. Anyway, we were all set up for that (3 camera shoot) and one of the guys in Zen ID said it was cool if we taped their show also. So, I have an entire Zen Identity show with three different camera angles in a huge cardboard box that I have been lugging around for the past 18 years. My goal then was to edit the works into one finished 60 minute program. I may yet get to that…but I really need to get in touch with Al. Maybe I’ll try Low’s website.

Clips of that night featuring HEAT are on my YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/user/speedking

notice that dan never asked MY permission to run any videos featuring me! sycophant! somehow sparhawk’s artistry has surpassed my own…

  14. Dan E. on March 31, 2009 at 5:28 pm

    Dearest Greg,

Considering that most of those videos ran on P.A.C.T. throughout the 90’s, I thought I had your blessing to bring them into the age of the internet. Plus, they were mostly cover songs anyway. I respect your artistry every bit as much as Mr.Sparhawks…or Brett Michaels for that matter.

Thank you for recognizing my obsequiousness.

    Love Ya,
    Dan

Wow … “obsequiousness”? Dan, you must work for public TV or something. BTW, that’s the title of my next solo album.

The Cove (or the dove as we used to call it) was running bands when I first came up in the middle seventies. I have also heard other stories from back then. The Yellow Submarine was another hot spot as well as The Casablanca. I saw Wendy O and the Plazmatics at the Casablanca. Condor was the area’s hit band and played almost every weekend. Many others Thrust, Atlantis, Ariel Bridge Band, Matrix, Actor, Proto Star on and on. Lots of great music back in the seventies.

Brings back memory filled with OOOOOOOOOOOOO I digress.

  17. Dan E. on March 31, 2009 at 5:59 pm

Nah…I just googled Greg’s “sycophant” and lifted “obsequiousness” from it’s description. F-In internet is great…I think I might like it after all!

Umm…I’m capturing Z.I. video now in hopes that Alan will reply to my email and give me the thumbs up. This is some great poopy.

    Todd,

I was @ the wendy o show too. Changed my life … I walked away knowing she could kick the Nooge’s ass.

  19. jp on April 1, 2009 at 7:52 am

We called the cove the “cave.” And it was, too. A cave, that is.

  20. Chris on April 1, 2009 at 1:43 pm

I had two cousins in Atlantis, one of the bands Todd mentioned, and they played the Cove all the time back in the 70’s. By the time I came of age they only had bands on special occasions. Basically national acts that used to be big like Foghat. I thought I heard someone was reopening that place, any activity there yet?

  21. Dan E. on April 1, 2009 at 4:01 pm

Yep, it’s now called “Ropers” and it’s a Country Bar.

  22. peopleskey on April 1, 2009 at 8:20 pm

Ropers is the shit. They have a mechanical bull. Anyone know when they run the bull?

  23. Todd Gremmels on April 2, 2009 at 7:24 pm

Hey BACI I think when somebody starts a chain saw on the stage and you cant hear the engine its really fucking loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would describe the plazmatic sound as a vortex of noise, how about you?

It was like you couldnt hear the difference between the bass, drums and guitar!!!!!!!!!

    Peace to the streets

Plasmatics show was the shitzizzle. I liked how Ritchie Stotts went cross-eyed during every solo. Also, saw Chameleon at the Cove. Yanni did the exact same thing.

  25. sparhawk on April 3, 2009 at 12:23 pm

    Zen Identity. Do it, man!

  26. Dan E. on April 5, 2009 at 10:55 am

Al…if that is you, please check your email.

  27. edgeways on April 5, 2009 at 8:56 pm

heh, Wendy O and the plazmatics where on SCTV back in the day… Gil’s Fishin’ Musician
