With a Facebook account and five minutes of your time, you could win Community Action Duluth a new minivan. We’re up against four out-of-state nonprofits in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good Contest.
Voting is open till 11 p.m. July 1.
If you vote, stop by our Facebook page and let us know how we’re doing (current standings are only displayed immediately after voting): facebook.com/CommunityActionDuluth
Aaand, just so I don’t seem like a total leech on the eyeballs of PDD: here’s a picture of some obsidian (?) that our Seeds of Success Urban Farming crew found post flood. Sorry for the poor photo, but anyone know if this is what it really is? Most pieces look glassy green on one surface and large-pored volcanic on the other.
Thanks,
Michael Latsch

Looks like industrial slag.
What sort of industrial process produces something that looks like that?
Obsidian it is not. They look like ‘clinkers’, the vitreous glass-like rock material leftover in the furnace after burning a fair amount of coal.
Michael, I clicked everywhere it said vote and could only get the song to play
How do you do it?
@Woodtick: Thanks for the info-I’ll find out where exactly they found it and we can try and figure out where it washed down from.
@Carla-the vote was just yesterday, and unfortunately we came in 2nd behind a very socially connected animal shelter in GA. We’ll be announcing an opportunity to raise funds for a (less shiny) new van.
