Looking for a headliner for the PeaceLoveHaiti benefit!!!

On Friday, Oct. 22, Friday, there will be a benefit for PeaceLoveHaiti at R.T. Quinlan’s starting around 9 with all $5 of the cover going to the charity.

Little Black Books will be playing, as well as Tony Bennett as the lone acoustic guy, but we need a headliner!!! Are you in a band that will donate one night of rock (hip hop, reggae, funk, folk, socca, whatev) to help us help Haiti?

PeaceLoveHaiti is a nonprofit group made up of 2 RNs. We go to Port au Prince and try to help as many people as possible by running mobile clinics in the tent cities there. We have a blog —

We need to make some drug money so we can bring plenty of vitamins, antibiotics, etc. with us. If you are seriously interested please email us at peacelovehaiti @

The Chicken Needs You

The Duluth Homegrown Music Festival is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator. Responsibilities include scheduling of volunteers at two dozen venues over the course of eight days, managing correspondence with a pretty kickass group of people, and generally keeping your cool under pressure.

A detailed job description can be found at

Time Bank

Does anyone know if there is a Twin Ports Time Bank? (Some places know it as time exchange or other terms.) If not, has there been one and it failed? Any info would be appreciated.

Time Bank is a service exchange where a person will do a job for one person and “bank” time for help from another person for people that might not know what it is. I mow your lawn and you re-shingle my roof. That type of thing.

Experimental Music Fest and Workshop

Bent Fest

Who is interested in attending a short experimental music fest in Duluth? I’ve got interested performers and workshop presenters. I could probably wrangle some funding, too. I’m looking at some time in the fall for a Friday-Saturday kind of thing. Still need a venue, a couple of interested volunteers and a potential crowd of workshop participants and performance attendees. Express your desires here or contact me directly through my web site.

Snow!? Plan ahead…

Friday’s snow and today’s run reminded me that we — Positive Energy Outdoor (ed)Ventures — are looking for dog enthusiasts to help with training, care, and projects connected to our friendly team of Alaskan Huskies. Options range from just helping with care to four-wheeler training, cart and scooter training, sled runs, event help, guiding local day trips, overnights, and a two-week arctic trip next March. We look for volunteers, paid staff, and even the option where you pay us (trips, tours, lease a team for the winter). Learn more about us at or call 218-428-5990. All our adult adventure offerings help us serve local youth.

School Project Help

I am trying to find someone willing to sit with me for an hour or two and tell me the story of his or her life. I am a graduate student in a marriage and family therapy program and this is for a project about the development of individuals by circumstances in their life. None of the interview is “therapy” and there is no analyzing involved.

I really would love to interview someone from the WWII generation. I would love to do this over the weekend or early in the week next week, as my paper is due the following weekend. If anyone is interested, or know someone who would be willing to participate, please email me at joellynsteele @

WANTED: Talented Twin Ports Performers

Story Ideas?

I am yet another student @ UMD in a journalism reporting & writing searching for a story.

We are working on a history of Duluth story… I was spending some time in Bixby’s and noticed the community knitting project…

I would love to find someone who has a quiet history of working on community grassroots projects… know of anyone?

or any other suggestions?
