Looking for Duluth apartment

A friend of mine is at her wits end trying to find a one-bedroom or studio apartment that is in a centralized Duluth location and is not totally ghetto. She is a sweet, responsible person and is about ready to give up hope, so if you have any ideas or leads, I’d really appreciate you leaving a comment. Thanks so much!

Duluth Window Washing Recommendations

I’m looking for some recommendations on a good window washing company in the Duluth area. I have an older home (1910s) with original double-hung windows. Thanks for the help!

Presenting the most complicated ballot question of all time!

If you live in Duluth, this fall’s ballot asks the question below, which I will not even try to simplify.

School District Ballot Question
Approval of School District Bond Issue

Shall the School Board of Independent School District No. 709, Duluth, be authorized to issue general obligation bonds totaling $128,000,000 to be used with an estimated $66,092,086 in bonds and investment earnings previously approved by the board for alternative facilities to build two new middle schools and two new elementary schools; repair and remodel three high schools, one middle school, and five elementary schools; repair and expand two elementary schools; and repair and remodel Old Central High and the Secondary Technical Center?

My question to you, PDD readers, is do you even want anyone to explain what this means?

It would be awesome if a local TV news show asked people on the street what they think this question means. The answers would be precious.

Minnesota North Shore Fall Colors Report 2010

Typical MN Fall Color Peaks

The Duluth/Minnesota North Shore fall colors are expected to be great this year! Typically the peak happens sooner if you go inland from the shore. The colors right on or near the shores of Lake Superior tend to peak a little bit later.

See the the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website for more info.

Lyric Opera Benefit – Saturday, Sept. 18

Please join us for a Benefit Gala Concert to be held on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Mitchell Auditorium at the College of St. Scholastica.

Lyric Opera of the North kicks off a new season — and a new era — with this festive program, which features soloists Vicki Fingalson, Kate Kulas, Sarah Lawrence, Bill Bastian, Cal Metts, Jeffrey Madison and others, along with the LOON Chorus and Orchestra, all under the baton of Keith Swanson. With close to 70 musicians participating – 100% of them local artists- this is an event you do not want to miss!

The program is sure to please: plenty of favorites and lots of variety from opera and operetta. The program will run approximately 75 minutes and will conclude with a champagne reception. More than 10 local vendors have contributed treats for this event.

Funds raised at this event will support future programming, including LOON’s upcoming production of Amahl and the Night Visitors, scheduled for December 17, 18 and 19.

Tickets are $24 and are available at the Mitchell Auditorium Box Office: 723-7000.
