Perfect New Restaurant: Northern Waters Restaurant

PDDPerfectNewRestaurant2016It’s no surprise Northern Waters Restaurant crushed Perfect Duluth Day’s best new restaurant poll. The eagerly anticipated eatery just opened in February, but has swiftly won the admiration and bellies of Twin Ports residents, as evidenced by garnering 67 percent of the vote.

Ely’s Peak Drone Tour

You may have noticed the PDD Drone has come out of hibernation recently. Here is a quick video of Ely’s Peak on the western edge of town. Yes, we did fly the drone through the entire tunnel. It was a bit hairy due to the darkness and the boulders that kept jumping out at our feet. The drone was wearing a small headlamp but it didn’t help much.

Poll: Best New Restaurant in Duluth Area (2016 Version)

What local restaurant will be the Spirit Room’s successor as Best New Restaurant? You tell us. Last week we compiled a list of nominees. Vote now for your favorite new eatery. We’ll post results later this week.

As usual, it’s a runoff ballot, so the list of options will shrink as favorites emerge. If the restaurant you vote for gets dropped from the ballot, you can vote again, so check back later. We started with 16 restaurants in the poll; it’s now down to the top four: Beijing Restaurant, Lake Superior Bakehouse, Northern Waters Restaurant
and Sala Thai.

Music by the Electric Witch

This Week: Dylan, Dylan, Dylan and more

Untitled design
Here’s a bit of what you’ll find in this week’s PDD Calendar:

It’s Dylan Fest all week long, and there is no shortage of daily Bob-centric stuff to see and hear. There’s an art opening at Red Mug Coffeehouse in Superior, a new volume of the Duluth Does Dylan series of albums is released during a big ole blowout concert and the Blood on the Tracks express is again ready to rock and roll. And that’s just a few of the things that are going down.

In other, non-Dylan news, people can attend an open house on Superior Street reconstruction plans, Zenith City Cabaret is back in action with its monthly show, the Maxi Childs Trio is out there doing its jazzy-pop thing, comedy titan Louie Anderson stops in town to dispense some hilarity, the public is invited to tour a UMD research vessel, Club Saratoga is the place for Saturday jazz and polka juggernaut Chmielewski Funtime Band swings by Cloquet to school fools in how it’s done.

Devil’s Kettle Falls Drone Flyover

Quick drone flyover at Devil’s Kettle Falls on the Brule River in Judge C. R. Magney State Park on the North Shore of Lake Superior. This specific set of falls, about 20 minutes east of Grand Marais, draws visitors far and wide for it’s unique mystery: half the river disappears into a hole (kettle) and no one knows where all that water goes.
