Get Downtown
Downtown Duluth, the nonprofit community organization that promotes and supports the city's downtown area, presents Get Downtown week April 22–27. The event celebrates restaurants, retailers and breweries by inviting people to shop, eat and drink downtown and take advantage of special offers from about 30 participating businesses.

Business and community leaders join together for the inaugural Sustainability Awards and a state-of-the-environment presentation which will detail a green opportunity that could help to define the region’s economic future. Dr. Jennifer King, from the National Renewable Energy Lab, will present research that indicates how Minnesota can build the infrastructure for green iron/steel, concrete, e-fuels and fertilizer. The registration deadline is Monday, April 15, at 5 p.m. Lunch will be catered by Clyde Iron Works.

Join Hartley Nature Center for a volunteer Hartley Park Clean Up event on Earth Day. Participants will be picking up trash along the Woodland Avenue Connector, in the parking lot, and along old Hartley road. Rubber gloves, work gloves and trash bags will be provided. Writer Katie Perttunen teaches writing within six weeks at Foundations of Flash Fiction. Perttunen has published two books, written for three newspapers and was the poetry editor for an online literary magazine. This class is best for ages 12 and older and is for both experienced and beginner writers. Participants will need to bring paper, writing implements and the book "Elements of Style".

Representatives of Duluth Public Schools are holding meetings at all of the district's schools to help inform the public about an upcoming ballot referendum. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about the technology levy. For Earth Day, the film Common Ground is about the broken food system and regenerative agriculture alternatives.
