Alison Aune and University of Minnesota Duluth art and education students lead art lessons for children during this 12-session course. Sessions are on Fridays from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per class, per child ages 6-13. Children ages 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult; the cost is $5 per adult. Register at zeffy.com. Foundations of Flash Fiction
An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Monday, repeating until May 6, 2024
Writer Katie Perttunen teaches writing within six weeks at Foundations of Flash Fiction. Perttunen has published two books, written for three newspapers and was the poetry editor for an online literary magazine. This class is best for ages 12 and older and is for both experienced and beginner writers. Participants will need to bring paper, writing implements and the book "Elements of Style".

May Faire Festival
The 12th Annual May Faire Festival is hosted at Spirit of the Lake. Participants will have many activities to join in on: maypole dancing, live music, homemade cake contest, petting zoo, cake walk, jump rope making, face painting, flower crown and fairy wand crafts, giant bubbles and more.

Spirit of the Lake Community School's song circle will be taught in the oral tradition, so songs will be taught by song leader, Hella Wartman, and no music or lyric sheets will be used. Alison Aune will lead participants in creating decorative Swedish floral folk paintings, also known as kurbits painting or Dalmålning. The kurbit was believed to be a fantastical gourd plant commonly used in folk paintings in Dalarna Sweden, as a symbol of good luck. Participants will create their own creative interpretative paintings as they revive the tradition using a contemporary color palette. Textile artist, Kirsten Aune, teaches how to make Stenciled Birds to Ring In Spring. Participants will learn her stenciling technique for fabric design while making a colorful patterned bird. Students will also learn how to cut stencils, learn about different inks, prepare fabric, and then print their own fabric designs.
