When Spirit Mountain had a pool

spirit-mountain

At some point in the early 1980s, Spirit Mountain did away with its swimming pool. It was probably a maintenance nightmare, and the notion of a pool on a hill overlooking the tributary to the world’s largest freshwater “pool” might be considered a little absurd in retrospect.

Trust me, though. It was fun while it lasted.

Growing up in Omaha, (a town NOT located on the world's largest lake) we had the Peony Park pool. It was built to resemble a lake, with sand on top of the cement bottom, a beach all the way around, docks, fountains, slides and diving platforms out in the middle. It was inside an amusement park, so there was also a monorail that ran around it. A genuine bona-fide electrified monorail.
