Superior Public Library is the place to learn about how to assist an orphaned or injured wild animal, individual Homegrown Festival journeys are documented in a photography show at the Red Herring, Duluth mayor Emily Larson and councilman Gary Anderson hold the latest in their series of community listening sessions, the John Frankenheimer classic The Manchurian Candidate screens in an all-new 4K restoration at the Zinema, it’s Adult Night at World of Wheels Skate Center and Randy and Mr. Lahey of the cult television comedy Trailer Park Boys bring their greasy hijinks to Clyde Iron.

The Duluth Junk Hunt showcases all things antique, vintage and repurposed, the cartooning of Chris Monroe comes to life at the Duluth Playhouse Children’s Theater, Bent Paddle Brewing Co. celebrates three years in operation with lotsa bands and lotsa food, kids can learn the ins and outs of Ultimate Frisbee at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center, it’s time for the costumes and puppets of the annual smelt parade and the roaring of the engines has once again commenced in Proctor.

Rockapella 2015 is in the house: Home Free stops at the DECC for some vocal-only action, people can taste a bunch of whiskeys at the Kitch to benefit the DSSO, Superior Siren plays the Red Herring with Coyote and Black Diary, Mary Poppins flies into Duluth, pop-country guy Chris Young comes to the Amsoil and Chris Monroe shows her latest stuff.

Kate Isles releases her first solo album, Rubber Chicken presents its latest Duluth-centric holiday production, Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute comes to Weber Music Hall, Charles Dickens serves up some ghostly justice to the ultimate one-percenter, a bunch of bands comprised of people who didn’t ask to be stuck together perform and Sacred Heart is holding a holiday fundraiser.

The 2015 Homegrown Festival is in the books, but that doesn’t mean there’s any shortage of post-fest activity in the Northland. UMD Dean of Fine Arts Bill Payne will defend a favorite film at the Zinema, the second-annual Veterans Expo is taking place in Superior, the 58th annual Lions Club Pancake Day is happening at the DECC, the Filmed by Bike Festival is at the Zinema, Grandma’s Sports Garden is throwing a party in honor of the end of the school year and Caroline Smith plays the Red Herring.

Mayor Ness hosts his final Bike Luncheon, the YWCA is having its Mother’s Day Walk/Run, the Cat in the Hat opens a month of shows for kids at the Underground, there’s stand-up comedy at Dubh Linn and kids can learn how to draw with Chris Monroe.

Browncoat Mondays continue tonight at Zinema 2 with two episodes and Prof. Lisa Horton presenting on feminist and anti-feminist themes in Joss Whedon‘s Firefly.

Art for Ed’s Sake is a fundraiser at the Depot on Wednesday for Visual and Media Arts Education in the Duluth Public Schools and you know it’s cool because Chris Monroe did the poster art.

Lots of plays and musicals happening this weekend:

• Buried Child opens at UMD on Thursday and runs two weekends.
• Hairspray presented by the Duluth Playhouse Children’s Theatre opens at the Underground on Thursday and runs three weekends.
• I Do! I Do! opens at Midi Restaurant on Saturday and runs three weekends.
• Jesus Christ Superstar presented by Superior Community Theater opens at the Wolffe Cultural Center on Friday and runs two weekends.
• Wise Fool‘s Macbeth returns for its closing weekend at Lincoln Park Middle School.

It’s Bockfest weekend at Fitger’s with beer tents in the courtyard Thursday through Saturday.

Saturday is the Ides of March and that means local musicians pay homage to their influences with special concerts at Beaner’s Central on Friday and R. T. Quinlan’s on Saturday.

Your Harbor City Roller Dames host a roller derby double header on Saturday at Pioneer Hall in the DECC.
