Garden Style Floral Design Workshop
In this introduction to floral design class, participants work with locally grown flowers to learn about the proper processing of stems and core elements to design, with the goal of developing the skills to create full and well-balanced (and sometimes wild) arrangements.
Attendees will learn about the intricacies of each flower variety to better understand their needs as a cut flower, as well as the inspiring elements they can bring to designs. By the end of class, participants will have a better understanding of the fundamental design basics to apply to future floral design desires.
Sun Printing: Intro to Cyanotype Printmaking
Cyanotype printmaking is a fascinating cameraless photographic process also known as “sun printing.” In this 3-hour class, students discover how to create stunning deep blue and stark white images by placing objects like leaves and plants on specially prepared paper. Cyanotype is perfect for anyone eager to explore the magic of photographic art without a camera.
Generalities of Reading the Body
In this introductory class, students explore the clues and better understand the messages bodies reveal through the face, tongue, fingernails and more. Each color, line and marking on the face, tongue and nails holds meaning of internal health. Each organ has corresponding indications on the face, nails, tongue and toes.
Aurora Photography 101
In this two-hour class, participants learn everything from A-to-Z about aurora photography, including how to use a full frame camera, set up, initial settings and understanding the data on SpaceWeatherLive. If time permits, beginning editing and Lightroom will be covered.
Invasive Color: Using Invasive Species as Natural Dyes
Many of the plants we now consider invasive species were brought to this country for a purpose. This workshop explores several invasive plants which can be used as natural dyes. There’s no guilt about peeling off the bark or pulling up the whole plant to make these dye baths.
Students learn plant identification, a bit of natural history, methods to prevent spread of invasive species and how to use these otherwise undesirable species to create beautiful colors. Go home with a minimum of eight different dyed skeins, approximately 25 yards each. The instructor will provide yarn and all dye materials. Students should bring a plastic bag for samples.
Introduction to Watercolor
Watercolor paint is a flexible medium to work with, but many people do not know where to start. In this class, students learn how to mix pigments with water, how to apply paint and 9 foundational watercolor techniques breaking down each step along the way. Students apply brand new skills in a floral painting.
This class has about 1.5 hours of instructional time with 30 minutes at the end for students to experiment and play with materials.
Lake Superior Surfing
This two-hour class offers an overview of surfing history, methods, safety, locations and gear. The instructor explains the parts of a surfboard and what gear is needed for lake conditions. The course is classroom based and presents the basics of how to get started with surfing on Lake Superior.

Make Your Own Ginger Ale
Students can learn how to make lightly fermented ginger ale using ingredients purchased from the local co-op and home brew store, the ins and outs of fermentation and how to apply this knowledge to concoct an infinite array of beverages.
Flower Arranging and Watercolor
Students can learn how to arrange flowers and then paint them with watercolors in this class.

A Lincoln Park brewery famous for its beer and wood-fired pizza combination is opening a new restaurant space that will specialize in made-from-scratch bagels for the breakfast and lunch crowd.
Ursa Minor Brewing will open Bean & Bear Bagels, a grab-and-go bagel shop, on the north end of its brewery and warehouse facility at 202 S. 26th Ave. W. this spring. The new location will feature fresh bagels, bagel sandwiches and specialty coffee. (more…)

Ritual Salad planning mid-March opening

A Superior native and long-time music collector who haunted some legendary, long-lost Twin Ports area record stores plans to open his own shop in Duluth’s Lincoln Park Craft District.
Todd Hanson, owner of Hole in the Wall Books and Records in Hayward, has announced plans to open a new store in the former Riverside Flooring building at 1814 W. Superior St. this fall. The store will be called River City Records and Books. (more…)
Oasis del Norte restaurant opening soon
The brick-and-mortar Oasis del Norte restaurant in Duluth’s Lincoln Park Craft District finally has an opening date. The Duluth News Tribune reports that Eduardo Sandoval Luna will open the taqueria-style Mexican eatery at 2401 W. Superior St. on Sept. 29, pending inspection from the Minnesota Health Department.
Sandoval Luna has operated the Oasis del Norte taco food trailer since 2015.

A new fast-casual restaurant featuring healthy salads and soups is in the works for Lincoln Park as the booming Duluth neighborhood sees redevelopment push east along Superior Street toward Garfield Avenue. (more…)
Bali Asian Cuisine bringing Pan-Asian food to Duluth

A popular Lincoln Park restaurant group is adding another bar and grill to its neighborhood food empire.
Duluth Grill Family of Restaurants co-owner Tom Hanson said this week his organization has secured a 10-year lease on the longtime home of Mitch’s Bar and Grill, 2113 W. Superior St. The site was most recently home to the short-lived Coach’s Bar & Grill. (more…)

A popular Duluth restaurant group has acquired the largest piece of open land in the Lincoln Park business district and plans to build apartments, a parking garage and new street-level business space on the property — similar to plans announced by its previous owner.
The purchase is part of several big land moves revolving around the Duluth Grill Family of Restaurants. (more…)
Warrior Brewing opens tap room
The Duluth News Tribune reports Warrior Brewing Company opened a tap room at its Lincoln Park neighborhood brewery on Sept. 24. The brewery began producing off-sale beer for distribution in cans and bottles in 2021.
Corktown Deli and Brews moving to 27th Avenue West
Fox 21 reports that Corktown Deli and Brews will change its location in early 2023. The business opened in 2018 at 1906 W. Superior St. Co-owner Jeff Petcoff told Fox 21 more space is needed, so Corktown will move about three quarters of a mile southwest to 102 S. 27th Ave. W.
Parent company Arrowstar Hospitality Partners purchased the former Duluth Stove and Fireplace building in May. It is adjacent to the Duluth Grill, another restaurant under Arrowstar’s umbrella.
Demolition, apartments is new plan for Esmond building

Frost River has gone solar
Frost River, a maker of canvas packs in Duluth’s Lincoln Park Craft District, is now powering its manufacturing facility and retail store with solar panels. The new rooftop panels are from EPF Solar of Minneapolis and were installed by Belknap Electric. (more…)
