Event Navigation

The American Indian Community Housing Organization and its community partners Mashkawisen Treatment Center, St. Louis County and Minnesota Public Health via Zoom for a session on cultural healing with recovery from addiction.

The guest speaker, Sharyl Whitehawk, is a Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe tribal member and is a level III addictions counselor and licensed alcohol and drug counselor at the Khunsi Onikan Native Women’s Treatment Program at the American Indian Family Center in St. Paul. She will discuss why using culturally based teachings, ceremonies and curriculum helps most Native American people do much better in treatment and recovery.

This webinar/zoom is the first in a three-part Indigenous Health Series that AICHO is putting together in partnership with St. Louis County Public Health. It is open to the public, but will center on the American Indian/First Nations experience.

The event is sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Human Services Behavioral Health Division via a Waaseyaa Healing Grant and St. Louis County Public Health.

Registration is through an online Google form and closes Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. Registrants will receive the Zoom link on Oct. 3.
