Native Plant Walk
This trip will focus on learning the Ojibwe language names of native plants present at Wisconsin Point. Participants should dress for poison ivy protection. Marisa Lee will be the field trip leader. She has prepared a helpful handout for folks to reference during the field trip. Lee is a recent law school graduate and self-described plant nerd. Wisconsin Point Spring Beach Cleanup 2022
The second annual Wisconsin Point Spring Beach Cleanup is organized by Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve, in partnership with the city of Superior. Volunteers are invited to help keep Wisconsin Point clean by joining members of Superior Rotary and the St. Louis River Alliance to help remove garbage from the point. Piping Plover Project Intro and Invasive Species Removal
St. Louis River Alliance project lead Tonia Kittelson gives an overview of the Piping Plover Project and discusses habitat features necessary for Piping Plover nesting. Removal of Spotted Knapweed on Lake Superior Day
This pre-event takes place prior to the start of Lake Superior Day on Wisconsin Point lot number five. The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve are looking for 25 volunteers for the removal of spotted knapweed. Attendees can sign up here. Superior Adventures Community Paddle: Wisconsin Point
The University of Wisconsin-Superior offers several opportunities for community members to enjoy a leisurely evening paddling the waters around Superior with its community paddle events, guided by Superior Adventures staff. The 2023 Great Lakes Day of Action will include The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve’s fall cleanup. Volunteers across the Great Lakes are cleaning the shorelines and contributing litter data to help researchers and policy makers develop upstream solutions. Advanced registration is appreciated but not required. Snacks and cleanup supplies will be provided, but please bring work gloves if you have them. Dress for the weather and bring sturdy footwear. The rain date will be September 30.
