Native Plant Walk

Aug 28, 2021, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm | Free | Wisconsin Point

Event Navigation

This trip will focus on learning the Ojibwe language names of native plants present at Wisconsin Point. Participants should dress for poison ivy protection. Marisa Lee will be the field trip leader. She has prepared a helpful handout for folks to reference during the field trip.

Lee is a recent law school graduate and self-described plant nerd. A mixed-race descendant of Red Lake Nation (Ojibwe) and Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, she’s particularly interested in the traditional knowledge encoded within Ojibwe language plant names.

The group will meet in the big parking lot at the end of Wisconsin Point, leading out to the lighthouse. Coordinates: 46.705525, -92.009281. From Highway 53 heading out of Superior, turn left onto Moccasin Mike Road. After 1.5 miles, turn left again onto Wisconsin Point Road. The lot will be on your right after three miles.

COVID safety: This event will take place outside. If you are fully vaccinated, wearing a mask is optional. If you are not yet fully vaccinated, please wear a mask. Guidance on current CDC COVID recommendations can be found at cdc.gov.
