Spirit of the Lake Community School Open House
Spirit of the Lake Community School hosts an open house complete with live music, goats from Duluth Goat Yoga, Duluth Kombucha, outdoor activities, and a chance to get a taste of what Waldorf-inspired education has to offer. Community Storytime: A Common Thirst
Spirit of the Lake Community School invites children and families to hear a reading of A Common Thirst by local author Gary Boelhower, local artist and illustrator Sara Brokke and local designer James Monroe. Spirit of the Lake Community School offers weekly summer camps starting the week of June 20 through Aug. 19. The school aspires to be an accredited Waldorf school. Join Teacher Shannon for each different themed week. Groups are divided by ages 3-6 (must be potty-trained) and 7-9. A morning snack is provided; children must bring a bag lunch. Winter Solstice Celebration
Spirit of the Lake Community School honors the darkest season and the light that lives within us with its annual Winter Solstice Celebration, featuring community fellowship, a bonfire, dancing, singing, music by Terrence Smith, a reading of The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper, ornament making and more. Students will create their own holiday cards in an artists' studio and operating letterpress shop. The project will start with students sketching their own designs before transferring their designs to linoleum blocks and carving the designs into relief images by hand. The blocks will be printed by the students with turn-of-the-(last-last)-century letterpresses to make editions of cards suitable for holiday mailings. Learn how to create a smooth join to connect strips of scrap fabric and crochet them into the start of a personal rag rug. Prior crochet knowledge is helpful but not required.
