Holiday Aurora: Lights of Summer

The latest video from Seth Trobec is new to the internet, but was shot last summer over Independence Day and Labor Day weekends — July 2 and Sept. 4 to be precise. The timelapse was created from Trobec’s photos of the northern lights.

Northern Lights Time Lapse

Seth Trobec put together this time-lapse compilation video to document the two best aurora displays he has witnessed in 2022. One of the two scenes was shot about 80 miles northwest of Duluth.

“The scene with the stream and trees across a field was set near Calio, North Dakota the night of March 30-31,” Trobec wrote in the YouTube description. “The other lightshow in the video was viewed from Deadhorse Lake near Marcell, Minnesota. I took thousands of pictures with my Sony A7riii, each of those nights, and compiled the best parts for this video and set it to music.”

Video: Grouse Showdown in Northern Minnesota

While traveling a county highway in northern Minnesota in search of a big buck to photograph, Seth Trobec came upon two grouse staking claim to the northbound lane. As cars pass by, the birds do a dance of sorts, as the more aggressive grouse struts around, sizing up the other bird, before going on the attack.

Lake Trout Fishing Gone Wrong

Seth Trobec gets taken for a ride in this ice-fishing video gone wrong. Trobec’s buddy, Cody Mjolsness, leaves the fish house and takes off on his snowmobile to pick up a friend … but the fish house is still attached to the snowmobile, with Trobec inside.

The video was shot Jan. 14 at Canisteo Pit Mine Lake, about 60 miles northwest of Duluth.
