The second video release from Duluth band Lovehouse includes scenes from the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. It was directed by Parker Majerus. The song is from the band’s 2022 EP Shades of Red.

The Slice: 50 Years of Railroad History

Last week the Lake Superior Railroad Museum kicked off its 50th year. The founders of the museum had a vision to repurpose Duluth’s historic Union Depot train station into an arts, culture and history center.

In its series The Slice, PBS North presents short “slices of life” that capture the events and experiences that bring people together and speak to what it means to live up north.

Model Trains of the Duluth Depot

Recently inspired to look into trains in Duluth, I found this video. It’s a bit older than some of the videos I’m posting, but it’s still more or less contemporary.

I love the practice of model trains. My grandpa helped me set one up in my basement, and it was wonderful, but being in my basement made the tracks tarnish, hindering the current that made the train run. So I eventually just used the track board as a table.

Video Tour of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum

The Depot is closed, but the Lake Superior Railroad Museum is offering daily video tours. The first episode appears above. The short vignettes are hosted by the museum’s executive director Ken Buehler. Watch for future episodes on the North Shore Scenic Railroad YouTube Channel.

The Lake Superior Railroad Museum at the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center has opened a new photo exhibition based on the work of American railroad photographer Wallace W. Abbey. Located in the museum’s Gallery Car, the collection follows Abbey’s life work as he traveled around the country capturing historic images of railroads and the people who worked on all levels to keep the trains running.
