Book Launch: Dianna Hunter’s Clouded Waters
Zenith Bookstore celebrates Dianna Hunter's new novel Clouded Waters (Holy Cow! Press). The book launch will include a reading, discussion and book signing, with music by Duluth singer and guitarist Terrol Cousineau, crushing-it stylist on the bluesy, soulful and sometimes Western sides of R&B. Clouded Waters tells the story of water defenders and pro-mining forces clashing in the far north of Minnesota, where the publisher of a struggling newspaper unearths a corrupt conspiracy.

Stepping On Up invites people to learn about different aspects of homelessness in the community from service-providers and people with lived experiences. They are hosting two events: Oct. 26 is for reentry populations and Nov. 2 is focused on youth homelessness. Both are free events with refreshments provided. Gender Equity Summit 2023
The Gender Equity Summit is a gathering of women, girls, and people who identify as nonbinary, transgender, or genderqueer. The goal is to create connections and partnerships, build leadership skills and opportunities, create opportunities for self-care and healing, and build collective power to make social change. Playwright Heidi Schreck's new play takes a new look at our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives. Every year, the H.O.T.D.I.S.H. (hand over the decision, it's healthcare) Militia gathers Minnesotans to eat homemade tatortot dishes and celebrate equitable abortion access in our community. Last year, they had a record turnout with over 100 people attending, and 40 hotdishes entered in the bake-off. This presentation will share the work of the Towards Recognition and University-Tribal Healing (TRUTH) Project. Formed in 2020 in response to resolutions passed by the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council (MIAC) insisting the University of Minnesota investigate ways to be in better relation with the eleven federally-recognized tribes in the state, TRUTH looks at the impacts the U of M has had on Indigenous peoples in Minnesota.

Family Freedom Center: UUCD’s Monthly Woven Basket Recipient
Learn about the programs of the Family Freedom Center and the merger between the Center and Neighborhood Youth Services. Senior Youth Specialist Aaron Gelineau will share success stories and plans for the future. The Family Freedom Center seeks to empower the black community by reconstructing cultural and socio-economic narratives and unapologetically embracing what it means to be black, both historically and in the present day.
