North Woods, Great Lakes Course Master Naturalist Course
In this North Woods, Great Lakes, students will travel through the transition from the ice and snow of winter into the greening spring and explore geology, plant and animal communities, inland lakes and bogs, ecology and human interactions of the Northwoods, as well as how Lake Superior impacts and interacts with these ecosystems. Learn the basics of snowshoeing then head out on the trail to see what awaits in the woods and along the river. Child and adult snowshoes are available and no experience is needed. The 50th annual North American Birkebeiner will feature lapped courses and shortened distances due to lack of snowfall. An open-track event has been added to provide an opportunity for participants to race on Thursday instead of the Friday, Saturday or Sunday events, accommodating a wider range of preferences, safety and schedules.
