Law Day 5K 2024
Justice North, formerly Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota, presents the annual family-friendly Law Day 5K run/walk. The 5K begins and ends at the Duluth East High School parking lot. The course follows the Duluth Lakewalk and returns to the school for a post-race gathering, refreshments and tours of Justice North's Justice Bus. Proceeds benefit Justice North. Duluth Playhouse Youth Theatre presents Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr., a stage adaptation of the beloved Pixar movie with a new score from the songwriting team of Frozen. Performances run April 26-28. With a commitment to providing performance opportunities for young people, Duluth Playhouse Youth Theatre allows students to put their skills into action while connecting with their peers and growing as young artists. Ecstatic dance is free-form movement inspired by music. The Ecstatic Dance Duluth group holds dances on the second Friday and last Sunday of each month. The focus is on exercise without a nightclub vibe. Writer Katie Perttunen teaches writing within six weeks at Foundations of Flash Fiction. Perttunen has published two books, written for three newspapers and was the poetry editor for an online literary magazine. This class is best for ages 12 and older and is for both experienced and beginner writers. Participants will need to bring paper, writing implements and the book "Elements of Style".

Celebrate Carl Gawboy's new book, Fur Trade Nation: An Ojibwe's Graphic History. This beautiful publication is the debut of Animikii Mazina’iganan: Thunderbird Press, from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. The Lake Superior Estuarium is a gateway to the headwaters of the Great Lakes. Interactive displays tell stories of the St. Louis River Estuary, Lake Superior and the communities on their shores. The exhibit hall includes a play area for young children, maps to orient you to the largest estuary on Lake Superior and information to help you get out and explore.

The Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art hosts its 8th annual exhibition featuring new works by students and faculty. This event is free to the public. The open house will be held on Friday, May 3rd, from 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturday May 4th, from 12 noon to 5 pm. This event will feature live music opening night and a food truck on site both days. Work will be available for purchase to support the students.

Everyone Can Bird is presented at Chambers Grove and follows the migration of many different bird species returning for the spring. This event is planned in partnership with the Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve, Duluth Parks and Recreation, Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory, Wisconsin Sea Grant, Embark Supported Employment, Minnesota Land Trust and the Lake Superior Reserve.
