We are desperately strapped for door volunteers for Friday night (05.01) of Homegrown. If anyone can spare the time or knows of anyone who may be available, please have them contact Jen: [email protected]. We are offering full week passes, money, whatever.
Homegrown on KUMD
KUMD 103.3 is having Homegrown artists live in the studio all this week. Sessions will be archived at kumd.org as well. Here’s the schedule:

Tuesday night should have our own kickball team–Dada approach. TimK, could you build a backpack van de graaff generator with blinky lights and a vaccum attachment by noon on Saturday? We’ll need it for the game (Buenos Aries, 1941).

Koo Koo Kanga Roo
Koo Koo Kanga Roo is a musical duo from the Twin Cities. They promise to get the crowd involved in their choreographed dances and sing-along choruses and typically described as the Beastie Boys meets Sesame Street. Koo Koo will be performing this Wednesday, April 29th along side local Duluth rock trio, The Real McCoys.
The Event will take place in the Rafters on the University of Minnesota Duluth Campus at 9 pm

This Saturday two of my favorite musicians, Danny Schmidt and John Hermanson (of Storyhill, Alva Star, and The Hopefuls), will be playing in the round with third artist Chris O’Brien at Beaner’s Central.
Go check them out; pack the place!

Homegrown Banners
Hey kids, we know you’ve got ’em, and we want to see ’em. Turn your best Homegrown photos into PDD banners. We’ll try to rotate Homegrown-specific banners during the Homegrown Festival. Same rules apply, the image must be 960 pixels wide by 167 pixels high. Don’t stretch or squish the image to make it fit, that always looks bad. The Perfect Duluth Day logo will be added by PDD’s art department. Or, if you’d like, you can add it.
E-mail if you want the Photoshop template with the logo
E-mail your banners to [email protected], and we’ll start organizing them.
Also, a reminder, the banners go up on Flickr eventually. If anybody wants to add info about their shots in the Flickr comments, that would be cool.

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council is Seeking New Board Members
The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council is currently accepting applications from individuals wishing to serve on its Board. The following four Board positions will be open as of July 1, 2009: the Student Ad Hoc position, the Lake County position, and two At-large Board positions. The ARAC serves individual artists and non-profit arts organizations who reside in the seven counties which make up the Arrowhead Region: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis. Young Goodman Brown – “Runnin’ Down a Dream”
Thought this might be a good day for a little fun since it sucks so bad outside. Here we have the last known video by the band Young Goodmann Brown … doing their version of Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down A Dream.” This is it, I have no more video featuring these boys. However, I do have an entire 1991 performance by a great little band called Zen Identity … taped in the spring of 1991 at the Cove Cabaret. Anyone interested in that?
Duluth Does Cash & Young
Following in the footsteps of the Duluth Does Dylan and the Duluth Does White tribute, Sacred Heart Music Center is putting together a concert to showcase local talent featuring songs by Johnny Cash and Neil Young.
Performers of all genres are encouraged to sign up; klezmer groups, barbershop quartets, jug bands, tuba trios, pan flute players or whatever as well as the the usual guitar strumming suspects. This is to be a (mostly) acoustic show so no Marshall stacks allowed, sorry.
Concert will Thursday May 28 and registration is open until April 17th. Sign up at Duluth Does
Artists chosen to participate will receive a copy of the show recorded by Sacred Heart Studio, free pizza and beer and a stipend.
