PDD Quiz: Duluth Movie Mentions

Calling all film buffs and trivia nerds: this quiz is for you! Test your knowledge of movies that name drop Duluth (a perusal of the PDD tag References to Duluth in Film/TV or Other Media might help you cheat study).

#1 Ruth Hussey plays a photographer from Duluth in this 1940 comedy starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart.

Katherine Hepburn’s character replies “Duluth … that must be a lovely spot. It’s west of here, isn’t it?”

#2 The proprietor of a northwoods resort wears an “I’ve Been to Duluth” T-shirt in this 1988 comedy starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd.

Bent Paddle offers a version of the T-shirt in its gear store.

#3 Yuppie Diane Keaton unexpectedly becomes the caretaker of a distant relative’s child in this 1987 romantic comedy.

Keaton’s character decides to keep the baby after interviewing a potential adoptive couple from Duluth.

#4 Bill Pullman, who plays Meg Ryan’s initial love interest in this 1993 romantic comedy, thinks that Duluth is in North Dakota.

#5 Owen Wilson plays a birder who spends Christmas Eve in Duluth in this 2011 comedy.

Jack Black and Steve Martin also star in the film.

#6 Zach Braff’s boss threatens that “Todd Slauson from Duluth, Minnesota” will take Braff’s job in this 2004 comedy drama.

#8 John Krasinski, Rene Zellweger and George Clooney star in this 2008 comedy drama about the fictional Duluth Bulldogs football team.

According to George Clooney, “we wanted to call them the Eskimos, but because we were drinking in the movie, the NFL said we couldn’t use the actual names.” The Duluth Eskimos were a professional NFL team that folded in 1927.

#9 D.B. Sweeney plays an injured hockey player who listens to a Duluth radio station in this 1992 romantic comedy.
