Hostel du Nord opens Oct. 25

Duluth’s first modern hostel opens Oct. 25. Hostel du Nord, located in the former Garon Bros. Jewelers building at 217 W. First St., will offer an alternative to traditional lodging options.

Perfect Duluth Day first reported about the hostel development 11 months ago following Duluth entrepreneur Bob Monahan’s purchase of the three-story, 5,200-square-foot building.

A few of Hostel du Nord’s amenities include: a Finnish-style sauna, communal kitchenette and dining area, secure luggage storage, self-contained bathrooms, personal lockers, laundry, WiFi and 24/7 staffing. It can accommodate up to 48 guests, providing common spaces for socializing, enjoying a beer or a glass of wine, or simply relaxing. At the end of the day, visitors can retreat to a private bed, each with its own electrical outlets and reading light.

To help visitors explore what Duluth has to offer, the hostel will also provide tour bookings, bike rentals, secure outdoor storage for kayaks, bikes, skis and snowboards. The hostel has access to Duluth’s Skywalk system directly outside of its lobby.

Hostel du Nord will begin taking bookings on Oct. 6. Grand Opening festivities are being planned for earlier that week, with details to be announced.
