Obscure Duluth Logomania

Nicole Meyer came up with the creative project of making a logo for every lake in Minnesota. At one logo every day, she figures it will take her 27 years to finish.

In the spirit of that, it might be interesting to see what kind of logos Duluthians could come up with for places like Goat Hill or Casket Quarry.

So here’s an open invitation to consider your favorite people, places and things in Duluth that no one would ever consider commissioning a logo for, and make one. How about a logo for “The Path” – the place across the street from Morgan Park Middle School where kids go to smoke? For the zip code 55812? For Restormel Street? Pick your favorite noun and go for it. The more obscure the better. Upload them to the comments of this post.

This is not a competition, it is only an exhibition. Please refrain from using the word “branding” at any point. That word makes everyone sick.

This is my kind of fun! I designed three or four cruise and module patches as well as several status board filler designs (call it Deployment Dementia Syndrome) while on Pacific ops and deployments during my time in the Navy. Helped pass the time.

Nicole Meyer's project is very inspiring. To have the discipline to carve out enough time to go with one's gut creative idea and produce a high quality logo every day is unbelievable. Because of that discipline, I have started (and pay homage to Nicole's idea) mnriverlogos.com which is a different logo of Minnesota rivers every day. Not an original idea, but one that has been fun and keeps the brain working. As far as doing a logo for places like Goat Hill, check out my Duluth Crate Co website at duluthcrateco.com.

Holy cow, Jeff, those Duluth Crate Co logos are great! I can't believe I forgot about them. I know I've been to your site before at some point, and I see your work at G.B. Schneider & Co. Perhaps that subconsciously inspired this post in the first place.
