October Native Plant Presentation with Laura Erickson

Oct 24, 2023, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm | Free | UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics

Event Navigation

“Birds and Plants: Essential Connections,” is presented by author Laura Erickson.

Synopsis:
Some birds are strongly associated with certain plants but aren’t necessarily found near them all the time: Blue Jays thrive on acorns but nest in Duluth neighborhoods where oaks are hard to find. Other birds are more exclusive: Red Crossbills feed almost exclusively on pine seeds. Laura discusses the connections between some of our favorite birds and the plants they need, focusing on the importance of locally native plants for food, shelter, nesting sites, nest material, and the smorgasbord of insects, spiders, and other essential prey associated with native plants.
