Monarch Waystation Garden Tour

This self-guided tour of Duluth Certified Monarch Waystations features gardens with a mix of milkweed, nectar and pollinator plants that provide the habitat needed for the propagation and growth of Monarch butterflies.  

Seven gardens are featured on the tour — some small and simple and others large and elaborate. Hosts are available to show off their gardens and answer questions. Visit them anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Monarch Waystations are gardens certified by Monarch Watch, a national nonprofit education, conservation and research program at the University of Kansas. The organization’s focus is on the Monarch butterfly, its habitat and spectacular fall migration. It certifies sites across the United States; there are 101 certified Monarch Watch sites across Duluth.

To take the tour, go to First United Methodist Church’s east parking lot between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. No early bird sales. Check in with Duluth Monarch Buddies volunteers and purchase the tour brochure with site names, addresses and descriptions. The $20 per vehicle fee supports DMB planting projects and conservation efforts around Duluth.

Before leaving, check out the church’s waystation garden. Tour the waystations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in any order.
