Out and Active: Donkey Hike on Amity Creek Trail
Participants can take turns leading donkeys while learning facts about them and the Amity Creek trail. Out and Active is a monthly group for outdoor adventures for LGBTQ+ individuals and families. These all-ages, beginner-level outings meet once a month in or around Duluth for a range of activities including hiking, donkey walks, paddling, climbing, dogsledding and more. The Lake Superior Zoo hosts a summer evening for strolling the grounds or hopping aboard the train for a tour. Attendees can feed bears, otters and barnyard friends. And learn fun facts from animal keepers. There is a pop-up disc golf course, climbing wall, and bubble dance party for the kids (and kids-at-heart). Beer Garden events are held outside the Great Lakes Aquarium every Thursday in July and August and feature al fresco food and beverages on the Duluth Harbor. The series takes place on the Great Lakes Aquarium grounds with a lineup of local food trucks, vendors and views of the Aerial Lift Bridge and Duluth Harbor. Since 1993, Wolf Ridge has been a site for a long-term international study to learn about the lives and health of migratory songbird populations. Visitors can observe these birds up-close and learn about the banding process and bird research. Meet at the Forest Ecology Building. Open to all ages. Banding will be canceled on rainy days.

An accessible day of bird-focused fun in the Superior Municipal Forest. Free transportation is available from Superior Public Library at 9:20 a.m. Accessible parking, American Sign Language interpretation and binoculars with a wheelchair mount are provided. A track chair -- an all-terrain, electric-powered chair that can be used on hiking trails -- will be available, along with a scooter and walkers courtesy of indiGO.

It's time for the Dog Days of summer. This event will raise money for Animal Allies. There will be local vendors, live music, food and drink specials and activities for your pooch. Animal Allies will also have a free microchip clinic so bring your "best friend". All dogs and cats need to be on a leash or in a carrier. Limit 2 animals per family. Breeders will be charged. Plan to be outside, rain or shine.

John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon 2025
The 40th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon begins at Billy's Bar. The start of the race is open to the public and free to attend. A gate or shuttle donation of $5 per individual or $10 per family is suggested. The Beargrease is the longest sled-dog race in the lower 48 and is a qualifier for the famed “Iditarod” in Alaska.
