Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting for Youth

Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art holds summer drawing and painting classes for children ages 10-18 on Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to March 10. Students progress through pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor through individual exercises. All levels are welcome.

Students advance at their own pace. Each class builds on the next, laying a foundation of drawing skills, color mixing and painting techniques. As drawing is the foundation of artistic practice, emphasis is placed on teaching the fundamentals of drawing logically and simply. Students become familiar with the expressive quality of line and improve their eye/hand coordination and focus. After students have demonstrated a basic understanding of drawing, they begin painting in watercolor.

Sessions are held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. There will be no class March 3. There are also Saturday sessions available from 1 to 3 p.m.

Class size is limited. Registration cost is $200 per student. Checks can be made payable to Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art and are due the first day of class.
