Duluth Story Project Community Conversation: “The Right to Be …”

Aug 2, 2022, 6:00 pm | Free | Zeitgeist Teatro

Event Navigation

Kami Norland and Nelle Rhicard lead this conversation about how to grow and heal neighborhoods and communities.

Over the past two and a half years, Zeitgeist has been working within the community to uplift the voices of Duluth. The Duluth Story Project is a podcast, community mosaic art exhibit and community conversation. This project was created to promote healing, to influence policy makers, to support local artists, and “create a new next, together.”

The podcast episodes feature stories from the community retold by artists. The interactive community mosaic art installation on display in the artium art gallery at the Zeitgeist Arts building will remain through August. The Zeitgeist Healthy Hillside team has also collected stories from people about how the pandemic was affecting them and is bringing resources and information to help navigate those challenges. This exhibit will feature individual expressions from community members sharing their visions of what a connected, healthy community looks like.

About the discussion leaders:

Kami Norland, MA, ATR, is the compassionate experiences organizer of Integrative ReSources and co-founder of the global Elevate Compassion Coalition. She has stood on many international stages, delivering keynote presentations and facilitating workshops. She has more than 20 years of experience working in health care at local, state, national and international levels from direct care to administrator to trusted advisor.

Nelle Rhicard is a graphic decorder who translates group meetings into visual images. Her notes assist the group to find key themes and stories within a dialogue. The visual harvest is a summary that reflects back to the group what has been said and inspires new ways of thinking about complex subjects. Images can be used after the event is over in reports, emails, presentations and on web platforms to enhance visual communication and engagement. Her goals are to deepen the role of active listening, activate the visual brain and make lasting connections between individual voices and the collective story.
