Timothy Martin & the New Norm – “Canada”

Low cover by Timothy Martin Nelson in honor of tonight’s Duluth Does Low show.

Song engineered and mixed by Tom Fabjance at Playpen Studio. The New Norm features Russell Sackett on bass and backing vocals, Walter Wedin on drums, Peter Knutson on lead guitar, and T. Bruce Bowers on space fiddle.

Any musicians out there?

I am looking for someone to do a rock cover of a 3-minute song I wrote, preferably heavy metal but something more punkish would be OK, too. I can pay $50 and it doesn’t have to be that good, the most important thing is that the vocals be clear and understandable. This is for a Christmas present for someone, so I need it by Dec. 22. If you’re interested please e-mail me at robertlillegard -[at]- gmail -[dot]- com.

Happy Holidays from Rubber Chicken and Perfect Duluth Day

Here’s a little ditty from this year’s Rubber Chicken Theater holiday comedy revue — How the Grinch Shut Down Christmas, or, I Saw Rudolph Twerking Santa Claus — featuring Greg J. Anderson, Sharon Dixon Obst and Anders Hultstrom.

Thanks to Dean Vogtman at Happy Tree Productions for the use of his studio, and the fine folks at Beaner’s Central who had to shimmy around our cameras to get across the room.

All outdoor scenes were actually shot outdoors.

Trampled by Turtles – “Pipe Knot”

Video by Daniel McCord, shot live at the Georgia Theatre on Nov. 14. Next local TBT gig: Dec. 21 at Papa Charlies in Lutsen.

Haley Bonar — “Last War”

Bob Dylan – “Like a Rolling Stone” (2013 Interactive Video)

It can’t be embedded on PDD, because it’s a crazy interactive weirdo thing. Go to bobdylan.com to check it out. If you have slow internet, don’t bother.

As you watch the video, you can use the up-and-down arrows on your keyboard to switch between 16 different “channels” to see 16 different versions. None of the versions are particularly great, but collectively … well … it’s something different anyway.

Audio Archive: The Replacements at Saints Roller Rink in 1982

This recording popped up in the comments to an old PDD post — “Treatment Bound” — but it seems as if it warrants its own post.

Red Mountain — “Put Me Through”

Here’s the new video featuring Duluth band Red Mountain. The group’s album Scowl Lightly, will be released by Chaperone Records on Dec. 6.

The dancers are Erin Tope, Maeggie Licht and Grace Holden. The video was produced by Lakefront Films.

Woodland School Song

While wondering the halls of Woodland Middle School, I came upon the school song.

The school is slated for destruction in the very near future. I can hardly wait for the Chipotle or other chains that they will force upon us.

Duluth Guitar Instructor Recommendations

My husband and I just moved to Duluth and want to start taking guitar lessons after the holidays. Our interests are rock, blues, and traditional country, both acoustic and electric. We took lessons for a little while a zillion years ago, but need to start over at the beginning. Proficiency in guitar is on our lifetime to-do lists, so we need to get going on that. Who do you recommend? Thanks.

Band Practice Space in Duluth?

My new band is not able to practice anymore in the basement we were using. We are starting to look elsewhere for a place to practice. We already know about the Clubhouse. We are waiting to find out if there will be an opening. Does anyone know anywhere else we can ask? We are loud so we obviously need a place that doesn’t care about that or is soundproofed.

New Album from Ryan Van Slooten

Hey everyone, my new album “Victory March” is finally available! It was recorded at Sacred Heart with Jake Larson over this past summer and I am incredibly happy and proud to share it with all of you. If you have a second to check it out, please click the link below. There was a slight delay on getting it up onto iTunes, Amazon, etc., but it should only be a few more days before that’s done. Thank you so much for your support! Ryan Van Slooten BandCamp Profile

Call for HG2013 Photos

A blustery fall day seems like a good day to get an early start on Homegrown 2013 photo wrangling for next year’s Field Guide. With an earlier start, hopefully this can evolve into better curation and collaboration. Send me stuff & questions: transistormag [/] gmail.

Homegrown is also in the process of planning a website / photo archive / history overhaul, so we will be looking for a “motherfucking sub-committee” for that, if I remember my meeting notes correctly seeking input.

Thanks!
