Madrigal Dinner

Kate and I were randomly selected as Lord and Lady of the Madrigal Dinner at UUCD last night.

The event was the second annual such dinner (a fundraiser as well as a community builder, I think, for the Unitarian church). We attended with our friend Lisa, herself a noted Renaissance Festy. There were more than a few highlights:
–the MC and Trumpeter were hilarious as they kept the evening moving.
–the Conjuror stole my attention and stole Kate’s heart
–the Bard, wandering from Table to Table to read poems of gentle and bawdy love, stole a little bit of Lisa’s heart.
–the singing, OMG, the music — from the flirtatious Greensleeves to the gentle instrumentals by my friend and colleague Samuel C. Black to the choruses — were there no food, they would have been worth the price of admission alone.

But there was food. I’ll admit — I’ve never had quail before. But the food was lusciously prepared, to my taste, and served with humor.

Seats may still be available for tonight (Saturday). I can’t guarantee you’ll be King and Queen, as Kate and I were, but I can guarantee a good time for a good cause in a great community.

Merriment is in the air at beautifully decorated Greenway Manor. The Lord & Lady of the manor have planned a sumptuous five course meal, various sorts of music and entertainments, period dancing, and much merry making for you to enjoy.
