Secret Service – Fail

http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/124411/

Sunday’s Bayfront concert cancelled due to low ticket sales.  Did they ever promote it?  I e-mailed Secret Service on Monday asking some questions about it, since it was not listed in the Transistor and got no response.  Another Secret Service flop just like Lucinda Williams last November.

  1. Anderson should have offered a free domestic partner certificate with the purchase of every ticket.

  2. Promoting concerts is difficult, and Secret Service’s successes far outnumber its failures.

  3. i’m sure its very difficult. perhaps PROMOTING would be a good thing to do if you are trying to PROMOTE a concert. show me some promotion of this concert, other than from the last week. show me promotion of lucinda’s concert. ahow me a response to my email. if its that fucking tough, and you can’t or are unable or can’t comprehend the importance of an event that you are supposedly marketing or maybe you are just a tool looking for attention, then maybe, just maybe, just a little bit – maybe, you should find another line of work and quit fucking with people who buy tickets to your shows, only to have to trudge back to the place of purchase to get a refund.
    just sayin.

  4. SS’s successes may indeed far outnumber its failures, but you’re only as good as the last event you attempted to promote.

  5. I am troubled by this, too. But I agree with Paul and I want Secret Service to do well, they are trying so hard.

As for the last event, I was there Relient K at Grandma’s Sports Garden and the place was packed … with teenagers, that is. Which is perfect. I wish someone had been doing more bands that really resonated with me when I was 17. And that brings us right back to why I hope Secret Service succeeds, bring in some good art, my peeps

  7. Jay–I’m sure that jock recorded that bit on Thursday or Friday–you’d be hard-pressed to find a live human being inside a radio station on a weekend.

I would have liked to see this concert go off as planned. What defines “Low ticket sales” anyway? Are we talking “not enough to pay the band” or, “not enough to pay the promoter after he pays the band”? Obviously, there are financial risks involved with this kind of business…with this, much like anything else, however, the harder you work, the luckier you are. JMO

  8. so i go to the fetus to return my tix cuz that’s where i bought them and when i hand them over, they look at the ticket number and say those aren’t in the range of tix that the fetus sold, so you’ll have to go thru the sercret service website to get your refund. luckily i saved my receipt from the fetus to prove that i purchased them there and they give me my refund – minus the fees.
apparently secret service does ticket refunds as well as they do promotion of their own concerts.
