Fundraiser to Preserve the First Presbyterian Building
The Duluth Preservation Alliance, in collaboration with First Presbyterian Church members, presents this fundraising event. Tour this historic church, built in 1891 by Traphagen & Associates, and learn more about its history and future. The event will include a musical performance in the sanctuary on the 1917 Skinner pipe organ and conclude with “Scottish Tea” with treats prepared and served by the church members. Duluth’s Grand Old Architecture Presentation
Based on his new book, Duluth’s Grand Old Architecture 1870-1940, Tony Dierckins will highlight the architecture, architects and some of the preservation efforts surrounding these historic places. Gain an appreciation for the Romanesque masterpiece Old Central High School; Daniel Burnham’s St. Louis County Courthouse, the centerpiece of Duluth’s Neoclassical Civic Center; plus works by local architects such as Oliver Traphagen and John Wangenstein.
