Sat, Apr 6, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm | Free | Hartley Nature Center

Event Navigation

We Are Water Events brings Sharon Day and Sara Thomsen together for an evening of stories and songs celebrating Nibi Walks. Learn about these water walks, and hear why protecting water is important to a healthy future. Sharon Day is an enrolled member of the Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe and former Executive Director of the Indigenous Peoples Task Force. She has led many Nibi Walks including a 1,129 mile walk around Lake Superior in 2023. Sara Thomsen is a local musician who has released six solo albums, is the artistic director and member of the Three Altos music group. Sara walked with Sharon on the Lake Superior Nibi Walk and will be sharing songs inspired by the walk.

Nibi Walks, or water walks, are traditionally led by Anishinaabe grandmothers to honor and respect water as life giver and are a form of prayer for the health of the rivers, lakes and bodies of water they walk. More info can be found at nibiwalk.org.
