Jun 20, 2021, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm | Free | Online Event

Event Navigation

Sparta-based singer/songwriters Rich Mattson and Germaine Gemberling will perform songs, talk about making music together and share stories about their life on stage during the second installment of the Sacred Heart Music Center Songwriters/Storytellers Series. Listen and watch the livestream on the Sacred Heart YouTube Channel

Minnesota arts advocate Karen Sunderman will host.

Rich Mattson began performing in 1980 at the age of 13, and took up songwriting shortly after that. Since then he has led and played with several bands, most notably the Glenrustles (1988-1999) and national touring act Ol’ Yeller (2000-2013). Currently he leads a cosmic folk rock group called Rich Mattson and the Northstars with his partner Germaine Gemberling.

Gemberling is a singer-songwriter born and raised in St. Paul. She began studying music a child, and grew up in the midst of the indie-rock explosion. She fronted her first band at 17—the all-girl punk band Smut.

Germaine and Rich fell in love and formed the band Junkboat. The couple continue to record, tour in a variety of groups and operate the music studio Sparta Sound, just outside Gilbert.

Rich Mattson and the Northstars released the album Skylights in February.
