Event Navigation

The Freshwater Dance Collective presents Dances on the Lakewalk 2023 – A Festival of Dance in Duluth with two free outdoor dance concerts at Gichi-Ode’ Akiing, formerly Lake Place Park, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday July 7 and 8. This year, choreographers from Duluth, the Twin Cities, and Colorado gather to share dances expressing relationships of all kinds. This journey through relationships of abstract patterns races to the relations of romance, friends, and family with dash of jazz, folk, modern, and lyrical dance. New this year is the Tamarack Dance Association following the show with audience interactive folk-dance lesson.  Audience members are invited up to Gichi-Ode’ Akiing to enjoy outdoor dances along the stunning background of Lake Superior and the Sculpture Garden. This production is partially supported by contributions to Dances on the Lakewalk through a GoFundMe at  https://gofund.me/67c0dd33

The Freshwater Dance Collective is dedicated to the mission of expanding the artistic boundaries of contemporary dance by presenting the choreography of regional and national artists.  The company was formed in 1989 to create and produce quality professional modern dance in Northeastern Minnesota through public performances and special events.  The company collaborates with musicians, visual artists, writers, and other choreographers to provide the company with opportunities to present the widest possible range of choreography, music, art and subject matter to area audiences.
