St. Scholastica Theatre presents this comedy, directed by Tammy Ostrander.
In a modern adaptation of Aristophanes’ classic satire, playwright Don Zolidis imagines Dionysus (the Greek god of wine and festivities) disenchanted by the current state of the entertainment industry. So he travels to the underworld to reclaim Shakespeare. Dionysus is convinced that Shakespeare will raise the quality of cable television if given his own show on HBO. The god and his servant, Xanthias, set out for the underworld with the help of Hercules and Charon, the Boatman. Not far into their journey, they are captured by a chorus of demonic frogs who are obsessed with reality television. Dionysus finds himself placed on trial by the threatening frogs who want nothing on the airwaves but reality TV. Dionysus enlists Shakespeare and Jane Austen in an epic battle to defend him and champion quality entertainment.
