Finding Your Flash: How to Tell a Story in 500 Words or Less
Focus on the fundamental building blocks of storytelling at the Duluth Folk School. Look at genre and literary fiction to find your voice within. After examining examples, you will have a variety of prompts to craft your own personal narrative. After several rounds of revision and discussion, you will leave with a piece ready to pitch to the variety of literary magazines, both virtually and in print. This course is intended for attendees to examine first, second and third-person points of view, as well as omniscient. Through reading examples of each, the group can gain a better understanding of what works, what doesn’t, and why. Through imagery and writing prompts, participants have an opportunity to tell the same story from a variety of viewpoints.
